Europe Region | 14th General Meeting of the Europe Region

The Europe Region of World Physiotherapy held its 14th General Meeting in Riga, Latvia, on the 23rd and 24th of May 2024. Representatives from 31 Member Organisations attended the meeting.



Day 1 kicked off with an opening speech by Esther-Mary D’Arcy, Chair of the Europe Region, and Michel Landry, President of World Physiotherapy. The main topic of the morning session was the approval and noting of the documents produced during the 2022-2024 term by the 6 Working Groups of the Europe Region. During the afternoon session, the representatives of the Member Organisations were divided into small groups in 3 breakout rooms to discuss the following topics:

  • Digital Physiotherapy competencies;

  • Economic footprint of Physiotherapy;

  • Physiotherapy cancer services in your country; and

  • Recommendations for Working Groups activities for the 2024-2026 term.


Day 2 started with the presentation of the feedback from the discussion sessions of day 1. After that, Member Organisations were divided into small groups in 3 breakout rooms to discuss the following topics:

  • The future of Physiotherapy in the Europe Region; and

  • Collaboration among Member Organisations within the Europe Region.


Following the two discussion sessions, 31 Member Organisations (and one proxy vote) took part in the elections for the open Executive Committee positions. The following individuals were elected to serve from 2024 until 2028: 


  • 1st Vice-Chairperson: Carmen Suárez Serrano, Spanish Association of Physiotherapists (AEF)

  • 2nd Vice-Chairperson: Tim Németh, AXXON Physical Therapy in Belgium

  • Executive Committee member: Michele Cannone, Italian Association of Physiotherapy (AIFI)
